Meet our partner, Avasara.

Since 2011, Avasara has been changing girls' lives.

"Avasara", which means opportunity in Sanskrit, aims to close the gaps in girls' secondary education and leadership development in India.  Avasara provides the highest quality education to India’s girls, no matter their class, caste, color, or creed.  Since 2011, Avasara's 4 educational intervention programs have impacted the lives of 1,300 girls in Mumbai and Pune.  In August 2015, Avasara launched its flagship program, Avasara Academy, a first-of-its-kind secondary school for exceptionally talented girls in Pune.

Please visit the website of our partner organization in India, Avasara Leadership Institute, for more information about Avasara's innovative programs.

The Leadership Foundation of India is proud to support Avasara's critical work on behalf of India's girls.

Avasara Academy is a secondary school for girls in Pune, India, that aims to cultivate India’s next generation of women leaders.  In August 2015, Avasara Academy opened its doors to welcome an inaugural class of 50 7th and 8th grade students.  Avasara Academy's world-class faculty and rigorous college preparatory-curriculum, combined with a unique emphasis on leadership and entrepreneurship and a culture of mentorship and lifelong support, will help its students make substantial academic gains and enable them to lead and succeed beyond their high school and college years.

Avasara Academy provides an opportunity that no other school in India offers:
  • A diverse student body from a wide range of income levels, religions and social backgrounds;
  • A Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Indian studies curriculum, as well as STEM-focused academics to prepare students for 21st century leadership; and
  • World-class faculty with the dedication, experience, and resources that students deserve.

Avasara's partners include some of the world’s leading academic institutions, such as Yale University, which will provide developmental resources and unique learning opportunities.

Avasara Academy is rooted in holistic learning: while its residential campus is being built, it will use an extended school day to maximize time with its students. Ultimately, Avasara Academy's boarding school model will provide a rich environment for continuous learning and growth, both academic and personal.

Avasara Academy's Campus

Located on 4.5 acres in the Lavale Valley, approximately 10km from Pune, Avasara Academy's main campus provides a safe and serene setting for reflective learning both indoors and outdoors.  This year, while the main campus is under construction, Avasara Academy is operating out of an Annex facility adjacent to the main campus, which consists of three classrooms, a lunch pavilion, and a recreational area.

2016 Construction

Construction is well underway on Avasara Academy's main campus.  The foundations, plinth, ground floor slab and columns are complete and on schedule for the first of six buildings on campus - the TCS GAINS (Girls Advancing in STEM) Building - and work is being done in preparation for casting the first floor slab.  The large concrete pipes (see bottom right photo) are the earth ducts that will bring in a consistent supply of fresh, cool air and are an important part of the passive cooling system.
